Is a Tankless Water Heater a Good Investment for Your Home?

Having hot water isn’t just a matter of comfort or convenience in your Essex, MD, home. It’s necessary for safe living and the ability to stay clean and healthy. A tankless water heater might be able to serve your home’s needs. Here are the pros and cons of investing in a tankless water heater for your home:

Pro: Long-Term Savings

Tankless water heaters usually use less energy than conventional tanks because they don’t maintain 50 gallons of hot water all the time. Also, tankless water heaters can last several decades, so yours can last longer before needing a replacement.

Con: Higher Initial Cost

While tankless water heaters can save you money over the course of their lifespans, the tradeoff is a greater upfront investment. Installation is more expensive if you’re replacing a tank model, and structural changes to your home might be necessary based on where you install the tankless model.

Pro: Save Physical Space

If you’re into spring cleaning, you might be looking up various home service specials for other parts of your home. As you clean out certain spaces, you might actually create space for a tankless water heater that might fit in a closet or cabinet. You can even mount them on interior and exterior walls to save space.

Con: Output Limitations

A single tankless water heater might not be able to keep up with two applications at once. If one person does laundry or dishes while someone else takes a shower, someone might start getting cooler water.

Pro: Faster Hot Water

Tankless water heaters heat up water quickly, to the tune of several gallons per minute. You can install a tankless model closer to your fixtures and faucets than a tank heater so hot water travels faster.

There are pros and cons to tankless water heaters, but the ones listed here should help you decide if this type is right for your home. Contact us at Hughes Mechanical, LLC for your next water heater installation.
